A Brief History of Taiwan’s Astronomical Development
Taiwan's first astronomical development project was convened by the former president of the Academia Sinica, Mr. Ta-You Wu, in 1991. Since the completion of the project proposal in 1992, the project continued a decade, and started training astronomers, produced international-level astronomical telescopes, founded the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Academia Sinica, completed the Lulin Observatory at National Central University, the Taiwan Oscillation Network founded by National Tsing Hua University, the Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey, the Sub-Millimeter Array, and the Array for Microwave Background Anisotropy. Through these international collaborations, Taiwan is given opportunities to use first-class observatory equipment in the world.
